3/10/2014 Anders Wilhelm "Andrew" Strand (1863 - 1926) - Find A Grave Memorial Birth: Oct. 14, 1863 Kopparberg Dalarnas Lan, Sweden Death: 3/10/2014 Anders Wilhelm Birth: Oct. 14, 1863 Kopp Anders Wilhelm "Andrew" Strand Anders Wilhelm "Andrew" Strand arberg Dalarnas Lan, Sweden Death Nov. 8, 1926 Kenmare Ward County North Dakota, USA Andrew William Strand Anders Wilhelm Danielsson Ljus was born 14 October 1853 in Borgsheden, Mockfjärd, Kopparbergs Län, Dalarna, Sweden. He was the son of Kerstin Andersdotter and her husband (the soldier) Daniel Danielsson Ljus. Andrew was the first of five children in the family. Andrew and his younger brother Louis (Lars) received their travel permit to leave the Mockfjärd parish on April 9, 1887 and they America. On April 22, 1887, they sailed from Göteborg, Sweden to Hull, England and listed their final destination as Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Andrew married Karin Ersdotter Skog on May 25, 1895 at Willmar, Minnesota. Karin and her daughter Greta. The family made their home in Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, which is near Svea. In 1899, Andrew and his brother Louis went to North Dakota and filed homesteads in Elmdale Township, Ward County. Andrew filed on the NE 1/4 of Section 17 in 160N-89W. Their farmstead was just a mile east of the Niobe townsite which came into being in 1907. Andrew filed his first papers, Intention of Citizenship in Kandiyohi County, MN and received his U.S. Citizenship on November 1, 1902 at Minot, Ward County, ND. He made final proof on his homestead and received the land title on December 31, 1903. The family attended the Swedish Baptist Church in Niobe after that congregation was established in 1907. The continued to farm and live on the homestead. On November 6, 1926, Andrew fell ill and was taken to the Kenmare Hospital where it was discovered his appendicitis had ruptured. Surgery followed and he appeared to be recovering, however an abdominal blood clot developed and he passed away at the hospital on November 8. His funeral was held on November 11, 1926 from the Swedish Baptist Church in Niobe and interment in the Elmdale Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Elmdale Township, Ward County, North Dakota.
